Cardiovascular diseases are still the most common cause of death and the third most common cause of hospitalisation in Switzerland.
The most important cardiovascular diseases are acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and stroke. High blood pressure and high cholesterol levels are among the most important risk factors. In 2022, 20% of the Swiss population suffered from high blood pressure and 15% from high cholesterol levels.1 An early medical check-up, especially for people with a family history or risk factors, can prevent the onset of cardiovascular disease by addressing the risk factors.
